Royal Enfield Service Cost Guide (350cc & 650cc)
Service cost is the part of Royal Enfield ownership buyers ask about least before purchase and worry about most afterwards. The good news: on a modern J-series 350 or a 650 Twin, servicing is predictable if you follow the schedule.
This guide explains what happens at each service, what drives the bill up or down, and how Chennai riding conditions affect intervals.
The service schedule
Royal Enfield specifies a first service at low mileage followed by periodic services at fixed kilometre or time intervals, whichever comes first. In Chennai, most riders reach the time interval before the distance interval, because average daily distances are short and traffic-heavy.
Skipping the time-based interval is the most common mistake we see. Oil degrades with heat cycles, not just kilometres, and Chennai's stop-go traffic is exactly the condition that ages oil fastest.
What a periodic service includes

350cc vs 650cc: where the cost differs
Labour time is broadly similar. The cost difference comes from consumables: the 650 Twins take a larger oil quantity, use two spark plugs instead of one, and have two sets of pads at the front on most variants. Tyres and chain kits are also larger and therefore more expensive when they eventually need replacing.
As a rule of thumb, budget noticeably more per service for a 650 than a 350, with the gap widening at the major services where filters and plugs are replaced together.
What pushes the bill above the standard estimate
