Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 Launched in India
Royal Enfield launched the Himalayan 440 in India on 4 September 2026, adding a simpler and more accessible adventure motorcycle below the Himalayan 450. Its official starting price is ₹2,29,000 ex-showroom.
The new motorcycle combines the proven 443cc air/oil-cooled single-cylinder engine with Himalayan-specific adventure hardware: a 21-inch spoke front wheel, 220 mm ground clearance, long-travel suspension and switchable rear ABS.
Where the Himalayan 440 Fits
The Himalayan 440 bridges the gap between the road-first Scram 440 and the higher-performance Himalayan 450. It is aimed at riders who want upright touring ergonomics and genuine rough-road ability without the 450's liquid-cooled performance and advanced TFT package.
For Chennai riders, that means one motorcycle capable of weekday traffic, damaged monsoon roads, ECR weekends and longer journeys toward Yelagiri, Kolli Hills or the Western Ghats.

Engine and Performance
The 443cc single-cylinder engine is air/oil-cooled and produces 25.4 bhp at 6,250 rpm with 34 Nm at 4,000 rpm. A 6-speed gearbox supports relaxed road speeds and flexible touring. Its character favours accessible low- and mid-range response instead of the stronger outright performance offered by the Himalayan 450's liquid-cooled Sherpa engine.

Adventure Hardware
The 21-inch spoke front wheel is the clearest distinction from a road-biased scrambler, helping the bike roll over potholes, stones and trail obstacles. The 17-inch rear provides a stable touring footprint. Suspension travel measures 200 mm at the telescopic front fork and 180 mm at the rear monoshock, with 220 mm of ground clearance underneath.
A 300 mm front disc and 240 mm rear disc are backed by dual-channel ABS. Riders can switch off rear ABS when controlled rear-wheel slip is useful on gravel or dirt.
Navigation and Everyday Features
The semi-digital instrument console includes Tripper Navigation for turn-by-turn guidance. This gives touring riders useful navigation while maintaining the Himalayan 440's simpler positioning.
Himalayan 440 vs Himalayan 450
The Himalayan 450 produces 39.5 bhp and 40 Nm from its 452cc liquid-cooled Sherpa engine, with a round TFT and ride modes. It remains the choice for riders prioritising high-speed touring performance and the more advanced electronics package. The Himalayan 440 is easier to approach, mechanically simpler and starts at a lower official price.

The Scram 440 is the road-first option. The Himalayan 440's 21-inch front wheel, 220 mm ground clearance and greater suspension travel make it better aligned with touring, broken roads and off-tarmac exploration.
